MASCOTS THAT HONOR: SANTEE SIOUX FIGHTIN’ CROW

Posted on January 7, 2008 - Filed Under MASCOTS THAT HONOR |

Honor Indians Institute would like to suggest an alternative to the Santee Sioux Community “WARRIORS.” We offer the Santee Sioux “FIGHTIN’ CROW” in honor of arguably the most famous and feared Santee Warrior, Little Crow.

The Santee Sioux warriors looked to their acknowledged chief, Little Crow, to lead in a war against the white man in what is referred to as the “Santee Sioux Uprising.” This was viewed as the Santee’s’ last chance to take back the land that once belonged to them. Little Crow agreed, even though he believed it was a war they couldn’t win. Little Crow was the Santee warrior that other warriors followed into battle. In honor of Little Crow, we offer the “SANTEE SIOUX FIGHTIN’ CROW!”
