I think that changing this particular mascot would be benificial to everyone. Seing as in today’s society we cann’t say anything without thinking if it offends someone- why should images be any different? To simply ask surrounding tribes if it would be okay to use their name or a particular image from their culture would seem more appropriate than to feed into the ’savage’ image of what used to be the only way of thinking how true Natives are. To many who love sports- wouldn’t this image be degrading? Trying to reprent a ‘positive’ image of your school or town- who would want this image of a mean looking (with no other word to describe) savage? So to change it to the offered alternative would help turn around the negative images of all Natives.
