Honor Indians Institute honors the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North Dakota for reaffirming their opposition to the U. North Dakota’s “Fighting Sioux” mascot.  The tribal council voted 8-1 in opposing the mascot.  Chairman Ron His Horse Is Thunder has stated that UND officials should use their 3 years to plan for changing their mascot, rather than trying to change the tribes mind.  UND was undeterred, and through a university spokesman, stated, “We’re looking forward to having conversations with both the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe.  I personally hope there will be some very positive results – mutually beneficial results – regardless of what happens.”  Honor Indians Institute honors the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe for sending a firm and swift message to the University of North Dakota regarding the “Fighting Sioux” mascot.
