Diane Humetewa

Honor Indians Institute would like to honor Diane J. Humetewa, a member of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona, for her nomination as the U.S. Attorney for Arizona. President Bush sent her nomination to the Senate yesterday. She was recommended for the job by Arizona Sens. John McCain (R) and Jon Kyl (R). Ms. Humetewa has worked for the Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona and for McCain during his two tenures as chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. If confirmed by the Senate, she would be the first Native American and first Native woman to serve as U.S. Attorney for Arizona.
