HONOR INDIANS HOLIDAY?

Honor Indians Institutes says ENJOY THE DAY!!! We encourage Thurston County employees to fill your gas tanks at Omaha or Winnebago gas stations. You can then go to either CasinOmaha or WinnaVegas and enjoy the lunch buffet and drop some of your county paycheck into the one-armed bandits. You can celebrate the Dawes Act, which broke up both the Omaha and Winnebago reservations and opened land for settlement, which led to the creation of your towns located in the county, which initially was to be named “Blackbird County” in honor of an Omaha tribal leader. Instead, the Nebraska Governor John Thayer vetoed the name, and instead named in honor of Senator John Thurston. Thurston was a member of the Senate Indian Affairs committee that oversaw the implementation of the Dawes Act. Your County Board voted for and approved the holiday, so ENJOY!!!

I discovered your homepage by coincidence.

Very interesting posts and well written.
I will put your site on my blogroll.
I think it’s important to truly honor the heritage of those who occupied this great land before us. A holiday would allow us to show our respect for the Indian population of our country.
Thank you “Honor Indians Institute”. The Omahas, Winnebagoes and other native tribes residing in the boundaries of Thurston County throughout the onset of the transitional changes of history still suffer the trauma and face prejudice by the non-Indian. The thick line of prejudice separates the people. You can feel it when you go into Pender and the Thurston County Seat. The majority of these non’Indian are not aware of the history that is in this document. Our Native population in Thurston County being at 52% can make a change to move the County Seat to Walthill or even Macy and to change Thurston County to Blackbird County if everyone voted and supported such a task. Once again Thank You. I will enjoy Native American Indian Day and remember to support the native members on the board when the challenge comes around again. I thank them too for walking out. Good move. I love my ancestry and all my Native people.
